GUSTAVO Hamer inspired Coventry City to an impressive 2-0 win away at Stoke City as the Sky Blues secured their third successive victory in the league.
Coventry went ahead through Jamie Allen’s strike early in the second period before Hamer’s fine solo goal wrapped up the points at the bet365 Stadium.
The result means the Sky Blues sit 22nd in the Championship table, just one point from safety with three games in hand on the teams above them.
And Stoke almost took the lead early on when veteran defender Phil Jagielka headed against the crossbar at the near post from a corner from the left.
The home side went close again soon after as Lewis Baker curled an effort inches wide of the post from 20-yards out.
Stoke continued to test the Coventry goal as Tariqe Fosu cut in from the left before shooting just wide from distance before a similar effort from the same player went wide of the other post.
However, Coventry took the lead against the run of play on 51 minutes when Hamer played a defence-splitting pass through to Allen who found the top right corner under pressure from a Stoke defender.
And Hamer doubled City’s lead on 65 minutes when he exchanged passes with Kasey Palmer and drove into the box, cut in-between two defenders, and curled the ball into the right side of the goal.
City almost added a third goal late on when substitute Callum O’Hare’s shot across goal was tipped away by Stoke goalkeeper Josef Bursik at full stretch.
Coventry are next in action at home to Rotherham United tomorrow night (Tuesday, October 25) with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
