VIKTOR Gyokeres scored twice as Coventry City eased to a 4-0 win away at relegation-threatened Huddersfield Town to close in on the teams in the play-off places.
Gyokeres scored either side of the break to put Coventry in command with further strikes from Gustavo Hamer and Tyler Walker as the Sky Blues showed their play-off credentials at the John Smith’s Stadium.
The result means Coventry sit eighth in the Sky Bet Championship table, three points outside of the play-off places.
And the Sky Blues were gifted the opening goal on 31 minutes as Gyokeres latched onto Michal Helik’s short backpass and delicately lifted the ball over Town goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic.
Huddersfield responded with a chance of their own as Scott High saw his shot from the edge of the penalty area pushed away by Ben Wilson who dived low to his right.
And City doubled their lead on 55 minutes when Hamer received Fankaty Dabo’s pass and raced into the box before he beat Bilokapic at his near post.
The midfielder turned provider for Coventry’s third goal on 59 minutes as he slipped in Gyokeres who drove into the box and coolly placed the ball into the left corner.
And the Sky Blues completed the scoring in injury time when substitute Walker finished at the back post from Gyokeres’s square pass to net his first goal of the season.
Coventry are next in action at home to Hull City on Saturday, March 11 with kick-off at 3pm at the Coventry Society Building Arena.
