VIKTOR Gyokeres’ second-half goal secured a superb 1-0 win for Coventry City at Watford as the Sky Blues continue to climb up the Sky Bet Championship table.
Gyokeres struck on 50 minutes at Vicarage Road to hand Coventry their first win at Watford since 2009.
The result means City sit 15th in the Championship table and are now three points clear of the relegation zone.
And the Hornets had the game’s first chance when Ben Wilson made a fine save diving to his right to keep out Ken Sema’s free-kick from 25-yards out.
However, Coventry took the lead five minutes into the second half when Gyokeres produced a superb finish into the bottom left corner of the goal from Jamie Allen’s cross from the right.
And Watford should have drawn level when Ismaila Sarr somehow blazed over from five yards out with the goal at his mercy.
The visitors were then indebted to goalkeeper Wilson when he made a stunning fingertip save from Joseph Hungbo’s deflected shot to ensure the Sky Blues went home with the points.
Coventry are next in action at home to Wigan Athletic on Tuesday, November 8 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
