COVENTRY City appear to be closing in on their first signing of the January transfer window.
The Sky Blues have been heavily linked with Swansea City captain Matt Grimes and have had a bid accepted for the 29-year-old, according to BBC Sport.
And Swansea have now confirmed on X that the club have accepted a bid for Grimes from an unnamed Championship club – believed to be Coventry.
In the post on X, the Swans claim Grimes ‘expressed his desire to move on’ from the Welsh club.
The post reads: “Swansea City has accepted a bid from a Championship club for the transfer of Matt Grimes.
“Following discussions, Matt Grimes expressed his desire to move on, and the club has respected his wishes.”
BBC Sport believe the deal could be worth up to £4m including add-ons.
Grimes became Swansea captain in 2019 and has made 333 appearances for the Swans scoring 16 goals.
Swansea have already stripped Grimes of the captaincy with Ben Cabango named as the club’s new skipper.
Coventry make the trip to Swansea this weekend (Saturday, February 1, kick-off 3pm).
