TATSUHIRO Sakamoto ‘loves’ playing for Coventry City with the Sky Blues preparing to take on Bristol City this weekend.

Sakamoto has scored two goals in his last three games, including an equaliser against Cardiff City on New Year’s Day.

And the Japan international expressed his love for the club after recovering from a back injury sustained in February to return to the pitch this season.

Sakamoto said: “I love this team and this city, so I am very happy to play for this team and I am enjoying it.

“My family also love the city. I settled in well here in the team and living in Coventry.

“I’m still learning English every week, but I feel I need another 10 years to speak English fluently.

“The [supporters] always give me great energy and they create a really good atmosphere, so I’m very happy to play in front of them.

“I’m very happy after a big injury last season, I’m feeling really well, so I’m happy.

“Three bones in my back were broken, but I was back on the pitch after two months, so it wasn’t too serious.”

The 28-year-old missed Coventry’s FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United last season as injury prevented the midfielder from appearing at Wembley.

And Sakamoto admits he is not happy with the consistency of his performances this season.

Sakamoto added: “It is one of my aims to play at Wembley.

“Everyone knows last season we played an amazing game against Manchester United, and I will never forget that great atmosphere from the supporters, so I want to play at Wembley, so I hope to do that.

“I don’t mind what position I play I just want to play as many games as possible and contribute to the team and help us to win games.

“I need to put in good performances every single game. I’m not satisfied with my performances so far. Some games I have played well and in some I haven’t done enough.

“I need to maintain good performances every single game, so I need to focus on that.”

Coventry entertain Bristol City on Saturday, January 18 with kick-off at 3pm at the CBS Arena.
