FORMER Premier League winning captain Tim Sherwood has tipped Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard to succeed Thomas Tuchel as the next England manager.
Sherwood captained Blackburn Rovers to the Premier League title in 1994/95 and played three times for England.
He finished his playing career with the Sky Blues, making 11 appearances for the club in the 2004/05 season.
Sherwood later managed Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa in the top flight.
And Sherwood praised Lampard’s early work with the Sky Blues while also tipping the Coventry boss to manage England in the future.
Speaking to OLBG, Sherwood said: “Can Frank Lampard manage England, why not?
“He’s done an incredible job since he’s been back as a manager and he took over a very difficult role.
“I was really curious about what Frank would do. He’s been out for a while, going back in, he has shown that knows the Championship really well and he’s done a great job.
“Mark Robins did a great job and Frank’s has done a brilliant job because it’s a tough act to follow. Robins was worshipped there by the fans and quite rightly so.
“Frank’s gone in there, he’s got a rapport with them. It’s easy to get a rapport when you’re winning every week. But he’s done a great job.”
Lampard scored 29 goals in 106 appearances for the Three Lions as a player.
And Sherwood expects Lampard to be a candidate for the England job when it next becomes available.
Sherwood added: “In the end, we definitely want an Englishman managing England.
“They decided at this juncture that it’s got to be Thomas Tuchel because he’s the best available and we wish him well.
“I don’t disagree with that. But Frank would certainly be one of the candidates. There’s not many out there.”
