JOE Blowers’s brace proved in vain as Coventry United were beaten 3-2 away at title-chasing Newport Pagnell Town.
Blowers opened and completed the scoring at Willen Road as Newport scored three first-half goals to end Coventry’s three-match unbeaten run whilst Callum Swain was sent off for United late on.
The result means United sit seventh in the United Counties League Premier Division South table.
Coventry took the lead on 17 minutes when Blowers capitalised on a defensive mix-up to finish into an empty net from 18-yards out after the Newport goalkeeper and defender both failed to clear the ball.
However, the goal sparked Newport into life as Albie Hall placed the ball past United goalkeeper Declyn Duggan on 27 minutes after good work from Jake Watkinson.
And the home side completed the turnaround seven minutes later when Joe Evans found the far corner after a quickly-taken throw-in was flicked on at the near post.
Newport scored their third goal in the space of 11 first-half minutes when Mohammed Ahmed cut through the United defence and squared the ball to Ben Shepherd who tapped in from close range.
United responded in style on 57 minutes as Blowers picked out the left corner from the edge of the penalty area after he drove with the ball for 30-yards.
However, there would be no further goals as United substitute Swain was shown a straight red card for a late tackle on a Newport player.
Coventry are next in action away at Desborough Town on Saturday, March 11 with kick-off at 3pm at the SG Pathway Academy Arena.
