HARRY Wakefield scored an injury-time winner as Coventry Sphinx battled to a 2-1 victory against relegation-threatened Grantham Town.
Wakefield struck two minutes into injury time to snatch the point after Joe Pursey put Sphinx ahead just before the hour mark at the Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena.
Grantham drew level shortly after Sphinx’s opener as Freddie Allen found the net only for Wakefield to win the game for Coventry at the death.
The result means Coventry sit 17th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, 10 points clear of the relegation zone with six matches left to play.
Sphinx broke the deadlock on 57 minutes as Pursey found the corner of the net from Jordan Hayward’s pass.
The visitors equalised seven minutes later when Allen fired home following a scramble in the box.
However, Sphinx reclaimed the lead in injury time when Pursey nodded a deep cross from the left back across to Wakefield who volleyed home from close range.
Coventry are next in action against Loughborough Students on Saturday, March 22 with kick-off at 3pm at the Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena.
