FOOTBALL - Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson does not fear Coventry City challenge

PHIL Parkinson insists he and his Wrexham side will not fear the challenge when hosting league leaders Coventry City tonight.

Coventry travel to Wrexham in search of a club-record seventh successive victory with the Sky Blues unbeaten in their first 12 games of the campaign.

The Welsh side suffered defeat against Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup in midweek but have lost just once in their last seven league outings.

However, Wrexham stunned the Sky Blues in the last meeting between the two clubs back in January 2023.

Then a National League club, Wrexham triumphed 4-3 at the Coventry Building Society Arena in an FA Cup tie.

Wrexham have since achieved three successive promotions under experienced boss Parkinson.

And Parkinson admits his side will need to be at their best to bring an end to Coventry’s unbeaten run.

Parkinson said: “These are the teams we really want to test ourselves against.

“We’ve worked so hard to get into the division to play against the teams at the top.

“We fully respect Coventry but we’re not going to fear them.

“They’ve had a very good start but we’ve got to believe in ourselves.

“They’ve scored a lot of goals and we’ve got to be switched on to set-play situations as well.

“The record is there for all to see, we can’t argue with it and we’ll need to be at our best.

“We’ve got to impose ourselves on Coventry. Respect them but we’ve got to be ready to impose our game on them.”

Coventry make the trip to Wrexham on Friday, October 31 with kick-off at 8pm at the Racecourse Ground.
