A LEADING national charity and a lucky competition winner scored a hole in one at an annual charity golf day in Warwickshire.
Businesses came together to raise almost £10,000 at charity golf day held at Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club, in Stoneleigh, in aid of the NSPCC.
The event, now in its eighth year and organised by the Coventry and Warwickshire Business Board, saw 16 teams of keen golfers take part in the tournament.
After a hotly fought contest, it was Finham’s Finest, including team members Keith Fairbrother, Richard Joyce, Peter Long and John Carroll, who triumphed to take first place.
A total of 800 golf balls were also purchased for a Helidrop competition, which saw the balls dropped by a helicopter 250ft above one of the holes on the course and the winning prize offered to the player whose ball landed closest.
This year saw the competition’s first ever hole in one, and it was Grace Elliott, the wife of former Coventry City chairman Joe Elliott, who purchased the lucky winning ball.
The Helidrop raised £3,690 at the event in aid of the children’s charity, which also included a dinner, fundraising games and a live auction. All proceeds from the day will be donated to Boole House, the NSPCC’s Service Centre in Coventry.
Golf Day organiser Keith Fairbrother said: “This year saw another hugely successful golf tournament which had great support from everyone involved.
“Once again, the event has helped raise a fantastic amount of money for a very deserving cause which provides help and support locally.”
