FOOTBALL: COVENTRY City have confirmed midfielder and Wembley goalscorer Gael Bigirimana has agreed terms with Scottish club Motherwell.
The Scottish club announced the signing on Twitter earlier this afternoon.
‘Bigi’ won two Player of the Season awards, from Coventry City Former Players’ Association and the London Supporters’ Club.
The 23-year-old scored the first goal in the Sky Blues 2-1 Checkatrade Trophy Final victory over Oxford United at Wembley Stadium in April.
A Coventry City academy graduate, Bigirimana signed for Newcastle United in 2012 before being loaned out to Rangers and making his Sky Blues return in November 2015.
The Burundian established himself as a fans’ favourite this year, and there were widespread calls for him to return to the first team during Russell Slade’s tenure as manager.
The CCFC website later confirmed: “Coventry City Football Club can confirm that midfielder Gael Bigirimana has agreed terms with Scottish side Motherwell and will join them following the conclusion of his contract with the Sky Blues on 1st July.
“Coventry City would like to thank Gael for his contribution to the club on and off the field, and wish him the best for the future.”
