COVENTRY’S Heather Gilks beat mum Martine by two shots to claim victory at the English Open for golfers with a disability.
Heather triumphed in the women’s net competition, playing off a 10 handicap, with two rounds of 73 as she finished on even par at Ramside Hall Golf Club in Durham.
She made three birdies in her final round which included a fine approach on the par-three 15th hole.
Mum Martine pushed her daughter all the way as she finished just two shots back after posting a first round 75 to finish on two over par.
Martine finished on the same score as Aimi Bullock (Sunningdale Heath) and Nicky Weeks (Puttenham).
Martine secured second place behind her daughter on countback.
Heather and Martine both play out of Coventry Golf Club.
Heather has cerebral palsy which affects both of her legs and left arm and received her diagnosis when she was just three-years-old.
Martine has osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia with effects of chronic, widespread pain, and fatigue.
