Greenway speaks of her excitement as Wasps Netball prepare for first ever home match in the Superleague

NETBALL: Wasps Director of Netball Tamsin Greenway says she is looking forward to bringing Superleague netball back to the West Midlands ahead of her team’s home debut.

Wasps Netball have taken maximum points in their two opening Vitality Netball Superleague matches – a 43-57 victory at Sirens followed by an impressive 46-70 win against Team Northumbria last time out at Super Ten.

Tamsin Greenway’s team are now preparing to make their home debut against Hertfordshire Mavericks on Sunday, March 5 (6pm centre-pass), at the Ricoh Arena.

Mavericks, who have also toppled Team Northumbria, will be hoping to spoil the party at the Ricoh Arena but Greenway is confident her team will be up to the challenge and deliver a strong performance for the home crowd.

She said: “We’re really excited to get out there. It’s going to be really good to be on our home court and show everybody in the West Midlands what Wasps Netball is all about.

“Mavericks will provide a similar challenge for us as Northumbria, a physical team who won’t be afraid to have a crack at us.

“They gave Team Bath a real run for their money on Saturday, their young defensive end work incredibly well together and we’ll face a real challenge in breaking them down.”

Wasps will have their full 12 player squad available for the visit of the Hertfordshire side.

Sam May, Sophia Candappa and George Fisher have all previously played for Mavericks – the fixture will be the first time Fisher and May have faced their old side.

Greenway said: “They are all focused on Wasps now but I’m sure there will be some points to prove out there.

“Sam May has been outstanding and what she is bringing to the group is brilliant. We’ve made a real statement that we want to bring on young shooters and I think George Fisher has rewarded our faith with two fantastic performances.

“I’m really pleased with the progress we have made so far. The away support last Saturday for us was absolutely incredible and we’re looking forward to finally playing in front of our home crowd on Sunday, it should be a great experience.”

On game day there will be a busy fan village open from 4pm with a range of netball activities such as an inflatable pitch, music, face painting, a chance to meet the Wasps Netball players and more.

Tickets for Wasps Netball’s first home league game are available at www.waspsnetball.co.uk/tickets starting from £10 for adults while under-10s go free, with group booking and student discounts also available.
