CYCLING: VETERAN rider Kirby Bennett has been labelled an ‘inspiration’ by the team owner of MI.I.Racing Mick Ives after recording his most successful season in cyclo cross.
The Hinckley-based star picked up no fewer than 17 victories this season despite experiencing broken chains, punctures and crashes along the way.
Victories for Bennett include the Midland Championship title and the season long Midland Series, while he also finished runner up at the British Cycling Championships and the LVRC National Championships, where he twisted his ankle while leading the race.
Bennett will now take a much needed break away from training while he undertakes an operation on his shoulder following. He will return to action for the mountain bike season where he will once again lead a strong Coventry-based M.I.Racing team.
“Kirby has been an inspiration to every one of our riders this winter,” said team boss Ives.
“His attention to detail and training, with his very professional approach, is something to be proud of.
“Kirby only joined the Team two seasons ago having never won any sort of cycling championship before. Now he is a Multi British Champion and has done his sponsors proud. He already has his eyes on more National Championships, so watch this space.”
