Hub's free classes aim to get locals lockdown lean

THE UNIVERSITY of Warwick are aiming to maintain the fitness levels and mental wellbeing of locals with the help of free classes streamed online throughout lockdown.

In the wake of recent restrictions put in place by the second national lockdown, the UoW’s Sports and Wellness Hub are broadcasting classes by livestream on their Facebook page ‘Warwick Sport’ – with a variety of half-hour classes available per week.

To better suit the needs of the general public, the classes will range in difficulty to aid varying levels of fitness and ability; covering mindfulness and yoga, to more demanding sessions such as Body Attack or HIIT.

And the importance of keeping in shape during this challenging time was best echoed by Lisa Dodd-Mayne, the director of sport & active communities at the Hub, who has called for beginners and more seasoned gym-goers to make use of the free online sessions.

The free sessions can be viewed at any time on the ‘Warwick Sport’ Facebook page.

“Looking after our physical and mental health is more important than ever, we know just how difficult being isolated or having to stay at home can be for our communities,” she said.

“To those who miss the gym and want to stay active, or those who want to try something new over the next few weeks and challenge themselves, we’ve got you covered.

“We’ve put together a great mix of classes to suit all abilities and needs, so we’d like to encourage anyone keen to give yoga a go, work on their cardio or just get moving during their lunch break to join us for half an hour every day on our Facebook page – we can all get through this together.”
