COVENTRY Blaze will play their season-opening games in the Elite Ice Hockey League as planned this weekend.
A raft of sporting fixtures and events have been postponed in light of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s death on Thursday afternoon.
However, the Elite League have confirmed, via a statement, that this weekend’s matches will go ahead in line with government guidance.
The league released the following statement: “Everyone connected with the Elite League was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday.
“Following a meeting of the Elite League Board on Friday morning, and following current guidance, the league’s 10 member teams have agreed to proceed with the season-opening games as planned.
“As a mark of respect, all games this weekend will be preceded by a two-minute silence followed by the playing of the national anthem.”
Blaze begin their Elite League campaign away at Manchester Storm on Saturday, September 10 with the face-off at 7pm at Altrincham Ice Dome.
And Coventry then host Nottingham Panthers on Sunday, September 11 with the face-off at 5.30pm at the Skydome Arena.
