COVENTRY Blaze have announced the return of Canadian forward Johnny Curran for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.
Curran spent three seasons with Blaze before moving to Slovakia at the start of the current campaign.
He returned to the Elite League with Belfast Giants in September where he skated 30 times and registered 11 points (four goals, seven assists).
The 28-year-old has now opted to return to the Skydome Arena where he enjoyed success after turning professional in 2019/20.
Blaze were able to complete the deal with support from the Blaze Blue Army supporters club, Booster Club and partner Tooling Intelligence.
Blaze head coach, Danny Stewart, said: “First of all, thanks to those mentioned for the support that they have given.
“Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to bring Johnny back as an additional body to our line-up.
“As for Johnny, it’s great to have him back. He had a career year last season and will bring different dynamic to our group.
“His ability to create offense and space for others with his speed is something I feel we lack a bit right now.
“He’s worn the colours before and knows what it’s like to be a Blaze player through and through.”
Curran tallied 141 points (52 goals, 89 assists) over three seasons with Coventry in 188 Elite League competition games.
He also jelped Great Britain achieve promotion to the top division of the World Championships with one goal in five games in Division 1A last year.
Prior to turning professional with Blaze, Curran was a standout in the Niagara University programme of the NCAA.
He is in contention for selection for Blaze’s trip to Dundee Stars on Saturday, January 6 before Coventry host Manchester Storm on Sunday, January 7 with the face-off at 5.30pm at the Skydome.
