COVENTRY Blaze conceded three goals in the final four minutes to suffer a shock 5-3 defeat against the Elite League’s bottom side Fife Flyers.

Blaze led in the closing stages at Fife Ice Arena only for the home side to score three late goals and stun the visitors.

Coventry are the first team to lose to Fife in regulation time this season.

And Blaze then lost 3-2 against Manchester Storm on home ice at the Skydome Arena as Coventry suffered a penalty shootout defeat.

The result means Coventry sit eighth in the Elite League table.

Blaze’s difficult campaign continued in Scotland as a late Fife rally stunned Kevin Moore’s side.

Fife broke the deadlock at 5.33 when Giordano Finoro’s pass found the net via the skate of Ian Scheid with the goal awarded following a review for a potential kicking motion.

Coventry responded at 7.03 as Jack Hopkins produced a smart finish in tight to draw the visitors level.

Blaze then lost William Boysen moments later to a two-minute penalty for slashing as Coventry stood firm to kill the resulting penalty.

However, Fife reclaimed the lead in the second period at 23.02 as Johan Porsberger scored unassisted on a partial breakaway.

Blaze equalised for a second time in the third period at 43.36 when Colton Saucerman fired home from the blue line.

And Coventry completed the turnaround at 54.27 as Adam Robbins finished from Ivan Chukarov and Connor Russell.

However, the momentum swung back in Fife’s favour at 56.14 when Finoro scored on the powerplay.

And Fife scored again 33 seconds later as Logan Neilson flew up the ice to strike and stun the visitors.

The Scottish side completed the scoring at 59.27 when Scheid scored into an empty net with 33 seconds left to play after Blaze pulled Dershahn Stewart for an extra skater.

Coventry then lost to Manchester on penalties but did at least come away from the fixture with a point.

Blaze opened the scoring after just 90 seconds when Matthew Gleason finished a wrist shot from close range after good work from Boysen.

The home side spurned a number of chances to double their lead before Storm equalised at 34.32 as Dante Hannoun’s shot crossed the line with the goal confirmed following a video review.

Manchester took the lead in the third period at 51.55 when Stephen Johnson converted on the rebound after Mat Robson spilled Zach Sullivan’s point shot.

However, Coventry drew level at 56.25 as Boysen found the net to force an extra period following sustained pressure on the Storm goal.

Neither team could find a winner in overtime while Hannoun and former Blaze forward JD Dudek scored in the shootout to secure an extra point for Manchester.

Coventry are next in action against Guildford Flames on Saturday, December 20 with the face-off at 6pm at the Guildford Spectrum.

Blaze then host Sheffield Steelers on Sunday, December 21 with the face-off at 5.30pm at the Skydome.
