COVENTRY Blaze recorded their first win of the Elite League season with a 2-1 victory against Glasgow Clan.
Goals from Grayson Constable and Grant Mismash secured a hard-fought win for Blaze at the Skydome Arena.
That came after Coventry suffered a heavy 6-1 home defeat against Sheffield Steelers after conceding four times in the first period.
The results mean Blaze sit eighth in the Elite League table after three matches.
Blaze bounced back from their defeat against the Steelers with a narrow win against Glasgow at the Skydome.
Coventry opened the scoring at 6.14 when Constable struck with Blaze short-handed.
And the home side killed two Glasgow penalties to remain in front at the end of the first period.
Blaze doubled their lead at 21.37 as Mismash continued his fine form in front of goal as David Clements and Alessio Luciani provided the assist.
Both teams failed to capitalise on the man advantage later in the second period as Blaze took a two-goal lead into the third period.
However, Glasgow halved the deficit at 43.37 as Brett Neumann beat Mat Robson in the Blaze net.
The Scottish side almost drew level minutes later only to strike the frame of the goal as Blaze survived a scare.
And Robson then made a vital double save to deny Hugo Roy with 10 minutes left to play.
Glasgow pulled netminder Lucas Brine for an extra skater in the final minute as Blaze spurned two empty net chances to seal the points.
Clan called a timeout with 22 seconds remaining but Blaze dealt with the late pressure to secure their first Elite League win of the season.
That came after Coventry suffered a first period collapse in a heavy defeat against Sheffield in the club’s first home game of the season.
The Steelers scored three goals inside the first 12 minutes to stun Kevin Moore’s side.
Sheffield took the lead at 3.38 as Mitchell Balmas broke the deadlock before Robert Dowd struck at 8.35 to double the away side’s advantage.
And Blaze failed to make the most of a powerplay opportunity in-between Sheffield’s opening two goals.
Balmas scored his second goal of the game at 12.18 to leave Coventry with a mountain to climb.
And Sheffield scored short-handed at 17.36 as Clifford Pu, who netted a hat-trick against Blaze in the Challenge Cup earlier this season, extended Sheffield’s lead before the end of the first period.
Coventry opted to change netminder Robson with Dershahn Stewart at the start of the second period.
Stewart made a number of saves to prevent Sheffield from stretching their lead before Mismash hit the crossbar at the other end.
However, Balmas completed his hat-trick at 38.51 as the Steelers struck on the powerplay at the end of the second period.
Sheffield added a sixth goal at 42.45 when Stephen Harper scored shortly after a powerplay opportunity.
Blaze grabbed a consolation goal at 53.02 as Constable found the net
Coventry are next in action against Fife Flyers on Saturday, October 25 with the face-off at 7pm at Fife Ice Arena.
Blaze then host Cardiff Devils on Sunday, October 26 with the face-off at 5.30pm at the Skydome.
