COVENTRY Blaze have confirmed the signing of Canadian forward Brandon Alderson.

The 32-year-old joins Coventry after spending last season with Blaze’s Elite League rivals Cardiff Devils.

In 61 Elite League competition games, 6ft 4in forward Alderson registered 42 points (24 goals, 18 assists), and established himself as a strong physical presence.

Blaze head coach, Kevin Moore, said: “Brandon is a passionate player who plays hard. He uses his smarts to create space for himself and others and proved last season that he has one of the best shots in the EIHL.

“Brandon is a player who very much embodies our identity, and I am thrilled to add him to our room both as a person and a leader.”

Alderson enjoyed success in several high-profile European leagues in Germany, Czechia, Slovakia and Austria, prior to his move to the Elite League.

In his first season overseas in 2017/18, he led Heilbronner Falken of the DEL2 in scoring with 61 points (29 goals and 32 assists) in 59 games.

Ahead of forging his European career, Alderson spent four years playing in the AHL and ECHL, notably with Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the primary development team for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Before turning professional, the Oakville native was an accomplished scorer in the major junior Ontario Hockey League, posting 157 points (69 goals, 88 assists) in 267 regular season games.
