COVENTRY Blaze moved up to third in the Elite League standings after securing back-to-back overtime victories against Glasgow Clan.

Blaze secured a 5-4 win away in Scotland at Braehead Arena, as Brady Norrish scored the decisive goal, before triumphing 3-2 on home ice at the Skydome Arena courtesy of Danny Kristo’s overtime strike.

And after extending their winning streak to seven matches, Coventry now sit third in the Elite League table.

In Scotland, Blaze fell behind to Matt Barry’s superb solo goal at 9.25 past Coventry netminder Nolan Kent.

However, Alessio Luciani levelled for Blaze at 23.19 only for Glasgow to strike back through Charlie Combs on the powerplay at 27.51 before Gary Haden extended Clan’s lead at 33.30.

Blaze responded with three goals in the space of four minutes as JD Dudek reduced the deficit at 34.38 before Tyler Kirkup ended his goal drought with a strike at 35.58 to draw Coventry level.

And the visitors completed a sensational turnaround on the powerplay at 38.35 as Luciani scored his second of the game.

Glasgow took the game overtime through Combs’ second goal of the night at 58.06 after Clan pulled netminder Jake Kielly for the extra skater.

However, after Kent made a superb save to deny Combs at the start of the overtime period, Blaze captain Norrish won the game at 63.08 after excellent work from Luciani.

In the return fixture at the Skydome, Blaze fell behind again, after a goalless first period, as Luke Lynch broke the deadlock at 25.22.

After three powerplay opportunities went begging for Blaze, the home side eventually equalised at 33.17 when Ian McNulty redirected David Clements’ shot into the net.

Clan restored their lead at 48.34 through Bryce Reddick only for Kim Tallberg to level for Blaze at 58.33 after the home side pulled Taran Kozun for the extra skater.

And Blaze went on to win the game in overtime as Kristo fires home the decisive goal at 62.06 to ensure Danny Stewart’s side completed a four-point weekend.

Blaze are next in action away at Belfast Giants on Wednesday, December 20 in the second leg of their Challenge Cup quarter-final with the face-off at 7pm at the SSE Arena.
