COVENTRY Blaze thrashed Dundee Stars on home ice before suffering a late defeat on the road against Sheffield Steelers.

Blaze romped to a 6-2 win against Dundee at the Skydome Arena as Adam Robbins netted twice for the home side.

However, Coventry conceded three late goals in a 4-2 defeat against Sheffield at the Utilita Arena.

The results mean Blaze sit sixth in the Elite League standings.

Coventry put six past Dundee to claim a Valentine’s Day victory against the Scottish side.

Blaze opened the scoring at 9.11 when Jack Hopkins picked out Alessio Luciani in the slot who provided the finish in a move which started from behind their own net.

However, Dundee equalised at 15.32 as Bradley Schoonbaert tipped Kameron Kielly’s shot past Dershahn Stewart on the powerplay.

And the Stars completed the turnaround in the second period at 24.25 when Spencer Naas finished former Blaze player Johnny Curran’s pass as Dundee capitalised on a Blaze mistake.

However, Coventry drew level at 28.21 as Grayson Constable finished a two-on-one opportunity after Dundee missed the chance to extend their lead on an odd-man rush.

And Blaze reclaimed the lead 38 seconds later at 28.59 when William Boysen scored from close range from Elijiah Barriga’s feed.

The home side extended their lead at 37.29 as Robbins scored on the powerplay after Grant Mismash’s initial shot rebounded off Dundee netminder Emil Kruse.

And Blaze stretched their lead at 49.05 when Robbins scored his second of the game by redirecting Tallberg’s shot past Kruse.

Dundee lost defenceman Jackson Desouza for interference and unsportsmanlike conduct soon after before Tallberg completed the scoring at 52.38 on the powerplay.

Coventry then surrendered a two-goal lead in defeat against Sheffield after the Steelers scored three goals in the final 10 minutes.

Blaze deservedly took the lead at 19.59 when Mismash produced a clinical finish from Jordan Power’s pass on a two-on-zero break.

And the visitors doubled their lead at 28.33 as Matthew Gleason found the net after Sheffield had Sam Tremblay called for roughing.

The Steelers halved the deficit at 31.28 when Mitchell Balmas scored a league-leading 25th goal of the season.

And Sheffield eventually drew level at 51.25 as Brett Ritchie turned home Mikko Juusola’s pass.

The Steelers stunned Blaze at 52.34 when Jack Dougherty produced a neat move before finding the net.

And Dominic Cormier completed the scoring at 59.19 with a finish into an empty net after Blaze pulled Mat Robson for an extra skater.

Coventry are next in action against Belfast Giants in the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup on Wednesday, February 18 with the face-off at 7pm at SSE Arena Belfast.
