ICE HOCKEY - Coventry Blaze romp to big wins against Dundee Stars and Fife Flyers

COVENTRY Blaze won 7-1 against Dundee Stars on home ice before thrashing Fife Flyers by the same scoreline on the road in Scotland.

Blaze put seven past Dundee at the Skydome Arena before Chase Gresock netted a hat-trick in a comprehensive victory at Fife Ice Arena.

The results mean Coventry sit third in the Elite League table, seven points behind leaders Cardiff Devils with three games in-hand.

On home ice against Dundee, Blaze’s British defenceman David Clements marked his 500th Elite League game in style.

Clements provided the assist for the opening goal at 8.20 as Alessio Luciani deftly tipped his shot from the blue line into the net.

However, Dundee drew level at 12.38 when Cole MacDonald’s floating wrist shot evaded Blaze netminder Mat Robson.

Blaze reclaimed the lead at 21.27 as Luciani scored his second of the game from Grayson Constable’s precise cross-ice pass.

And Coventry extended their lead at 23.42 when Nick Seitz found the net with a no-look shot on the powerplay.

Gresock continued his fine form at 30.33 as he finished Mike Regush’s patient setup from the slot.

And Blaze capped off a dominant second period when Zach Heintz capitalised on a rebound at 38.20 after Kim Tallberg forced a turnover deep in Dundee’s zone.

Late goals from Tallberg at 55.53 on the powerplay and Terrance Amorosa at 57.55 put the seal on a commanding victory.

Coventry backed up that performance with another stellar performance against short-benched Fife.

Blaze broke the deadlock after just 54 seconds when Gresock found the net assisted by Regush.

And Gresock struck again at 15.06 to double Coventry’s lead before Alexander Kuqali scored at 17.35 to put Blaze in command.

Gresock completed his hat-trick just 48 seconds into the second period to take the game out of Fife’s reach.

Fife responded at 23.47 when Michael Cichy scored on the powerplay.

However, Seitz restored Blaze’s four-goal lead at 33.51 with a powerplay strike of his own.

And further goals from Brandon Alderson at 40.50 and Constable at 46.59 sealed another fine win for Blaze while Fife had Ryan Foss thrown from the game for spearing late on.

Coventry are next in action against Belfast Giants on Wednesday, December 18 with the face-off at 7pm at SSE Arena Belfast.
