COVENTRY Blaze slipped to a home defeat against Dundee Stars before claiming an overtime victory at Guildford Flames.
Blaze lost 5-4 in overtime on home ice against Dundee at the Skydome Arena as Coventry squandered a three-goal lead in regulation time.
Coventry then won 3-2 in overtime at the Guildford Spectrum as Grayson Constable proved Blaze’s match-winner.
The results mean Blaze sit eighth in the Elite League table.
Coventry started brightly against Dundee and broke the deadlock at 8.45 when Kim Tallberg jumped up into the rush from the blue line and snapped a quick wrist shot past Emil Kruse.
And Blaze doubled their lead at 19.30 as William Boysen finished Elijiah Barriga’s pinpoint feed at the back post following successive powerplay opportunities.
The home side struck again at 32.49 when Jere Vertanen unleashed a powerful slapshot past Kruse on the powerplay.
However, Dundee responded soon after at 34.18 as Bradley Schoonbaert finished through the legs of Blaze netminder Mat Robson.
And the Stars scored again at 38.39 when Matthew Boudens capitalised on a misplaced pass and saw his speculative effort sneak past Robson.
Dundee equalised in the third period at 50.48 as Otto Nieminen bundled home Drydn Dow’s heavy blue-line shot.
And the visitors completed a sensational turnaround at 52.02 when Kameron Kielly punished Blaze on the turnover.
However, Coventry took the game to overtime at 54.32 as Mack Stewart deftly tipped Tallberg’s shot beyond Kruse.
But Dundee would take the extra point as Justin Bean struck just 1.52 into the additional period after the puck deflected into the net off Grant Mismash’s stick.
Coventry responded with a hard-fought overtime win against Guildford on the road.
Despite another strong start from Blaze, Guildford took the lead at 9.53 as former Blaze forward Nick Seitz scored against his old side with the Flames short-handed.
Coventry spurned three powerplay chances in the first period as the visitors trailed by a single goal heading into the second period.
However, Blaze equalised at 27.12 when Boysen levelled the game as David Clements and Matthew Gleason provided assists.
And Coventry finally made the most of a powerplay opportunity at 34.07 when Constable saw his strike awarded following a video review for a high stick.
Blaze killed two penalties to remain in front only for the Flames to draw level at 45.26 courtesy of Jake Coughler’s strike.
And the visitors killed another Flames penalty to send the game to overtime.
However, Constable scored 2.49 into the extra period after Guildford netminder Jake Kupsky inadvertently dropped his stick when attempting to move the puck quickly.
Constable gleefully fired into an empty net to earn Blaze an extra point.
Coventry are next in action against Dundee on Saturday, January 17 with the face-off at 7pm at Dundee Ice Arena.
Blaze then host Glasgow Clan on Sunday, January 18 with the face-off at 5.30pm at the Skydome.
