COVENTRY Blaze suffered a home defeat against Dundee Stars following a remarkable penalty shootout win against Glasgow Clan.
Blaze lost 4-2 against Dundee on home ice at the Skydome after staging a stunning comeback from three goals down to beat Glasgow 4-3 at Braehead Arena.
The result means Coventry sit sixth in the Elite League standings.
On home ice against Dundee, the visitors broke the deadlock at 12.32 when Alex Robert found the back of the net.
However, Mike Regush drew Blaze level at 17.01 after good work from Kim Tallberg and the returning Alexander Kuqali.
The game turned at 25.35 with Coventry’s Grayson Constable thrown from the game for boarding.
And Dundee reclaimed the lead from the resulting powerplay at 27.31 as Zachary Tsekos fired the Scottish club back in front.
The Stars struck again on the powerplay at 32.53 courtesy of Ben O’Connor with Blaze’s Chase Gresock in the box for slashing.
Blaze then had a goal disallowed following a video review with Regush’s shot deemed not to have crossed the line.
Dundee all but sealed the points at 47.17 when Tsekos scored his second of the game.
Coventry reduced the deficit at 52.07 as Gresock scored on the powerplay.
However, despite pulling netminder Mat Robson with three minutes left to play, Blaze were unable to mount a late comeback.
That came after Tallberg’s late equaliser inspired Coventry to a comeback win against in-form Glasgow up in Scotland.
Glasgow took the lead at 13.38 as Liam Finlay fired an unorthodox shot past Robson on the powerplay.
The home side doubled their advantage at 25.34 when Matt Berry skated through the Blaze defence and produced a clinical finish.
And Glasgow took command of the game at 28.19 as Berry punished Blaze on the powerplay to give the Scottish side a three-goal cushion.
However, Brandon Alderson struck at 29.17 to quickly reduce the deficit.
And Gresock finished Regush’s superb pass from behind the net at 36.36 to further close the gap between the two teams.
Blaze pulled Robson for an extra skater late on and the gamble paid off at 58.37 when Tallberg found the net to send the game to overtime.
A dramatic extra period ensued with Glasgow’s Mitchell Heard penalised for tripping only for the home side to successfully kill Blaze’s resulting powerplay opportunity.
And Heard then came out of the box in time to play his part in a breakaway chance moments later with the Glasgow player hauled back leading to a penalty shot.
However, Robson stood tall to make a crucial save and send the game to a sudden-death shootout.
In the shootout, Regush and Terrance Amorosa converted for Blaze before Heard responded for Glasgow.
However, Tallberg scored the decisive penalty to secure an impressive victory for the visitors.
Coventry are next in action against Sheffield Steelers on Saturday, March 1 with the face-off at 7pm at the Utilita Arena.
Blaze then host Guildford Flames on Sunday, March 2 with the face-off at 5.30pm at the Skydome.
