COVENTRY Blaze captain Nathanael Halbert scored a powerplay goal with just 13 seconds remaining to secure a 3-2 win away at Fife Flyers.
Halbert’s winner ensured Blaze ended the weekend on a high after a 4-1 defeat at Glasgow Clan the previous day in their Scotland double-header.
The results mean Blaze sit third in the Elite League table, six points behind leaders Guildford Flames.
However, Blaze were slow out of the blocks in Fife as Zack Phillips opened the scoring for the home side from close range at 15.27.
Blaze responded quickly through defenceman Brady Norrish’s third goal of the season assisted by Colton Yellow Horn.
Former Coventry forward Janne Laakkonen scored Fife’s go-ahead goal in the second period at 23.48 assisted by another former Blaze man in Chris Lawrence.
However, Blaze drew level for a second time when Johnny Curran grabbed his 10th goal of the season at 35.01 assisted by Kim Tallberg.
Just as the game looked to be heading to overtime, Fife’s Jonas Emmerdahl was given a five-pus-game penalty for checking to the head of Coventry’s Yellow Horn.
And Blaze made Fife pay for their ill-discipline when Halbert struck at the death to seal an impressive win on the road.
That came after Blaze suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Glasgow Clan at Braehead Arena.
Steven McParland put the home side ahead after just 5.27 before Tallberg equalised for Blaze at 8.11 in an exciting start to the contest.
After a goalless second period, Clan went ahead just 34 seconds into the third period through Gabriel Chabot’s goal before Jake Bolton extended Glasgow’s lead at 46.45 directly from a face-off
And Mathieu Roy completed the scoring with an empty net goal at 59.49 after Blaze were unable to score from two powerplay attempts in the final five minutes.
Blaze are next in action away at Cardiff Devils on Saturday, November 26 with the face-off at 7pm at Ice Arena Wales.
And Blaze then return to the Skydome Arena to play Belfast Giants on Sunday, November 27 with the face-off at 5.30pm.
