Coventry Editorial 9th Jan, 2023   0

COVENTRY Blaze scored three powerplay goals in a 4-1 win against Glasgow Clan to maintain their perfect start to 2023.

Blaze led through goals from Johnny Curran and David Clements before Mitch Cook and Ross Venus sealed the win in the final period at the Skydome Arena.

The result means Blaze sit fifth in the Elite League table, six points outside of the top four.

After a goalless first period, Curran put Blaze ahead at 23.07 after excellent work from eventual man of the match Venus.

And Blaze doubled their lead through British defenceman Clements at 28.39 before Glasgow hit back at 36.03 when Gabriel Chabot beat Coventry goalie Paavo Holsa.

Blaze scored their second goal on the powerplay at 42.52 when Cook tipped Clements’ initial shot into the net

And Venus wrapped up the win at 50.38 with another goal on the powerplay to cement Blaze’s place in the Elite League standings.

Head Coach Danny Stewart said: “I thought it was a good performance and credit to Glasgow, they worked hard and really defended well.

“But in the second period we got going and special teams certainly played a factor tonight.”

Blaze are next in action away at Glasgow on Thursday, January 12 with the face-off at 7.30pm at Braehead Arena Glasgow.

Coventry then play Dundee Stars on Friday, January 13 with the face-off at 7.30pm at Dundee Ice Arena.

And Blaze return to home ice against Fife Flyers on Saturday, January 14 with the face-off at 5.30pm at the Skydome.
