YOUNG skaters are competing to claim a prestigious ice skating title currently held by a talented Coventry skater.

The IJS Skating festival is returning to Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach arena for its 55th year, and will see skaters from across the UK competing for a top spot within their category.

Coventry’s Hudson Fennell Owen is the reigning champion in the National 4 Boys age 12 and under category, having topped the leaderboard at last year’s festival.

The renowned festival sees skaters from across the UK head to the resort to compete for a top spot within their category.

In 2024, IJS invites skaters to enter as singles, adults, solo exhibitions and team skates and also expects to see entrants from top rinks from around the country, including Planet Ice Coventry, Planet Ice Solihull, Hamilton Ice Rink in North Lanarkshire, Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach Arena, and Ice Sheffield.

Thousands of talented skaters will be showcasing their skills, with many going on to represent their country at international level, with Planet Ice hoping to see another successful year for their coaches and skaters.

Amanda Thompson OBE, CEO of Pleasure Beach said: “We are once again proud to host this prestigious event in the British Ice Skating calendar in 2024, we can’t wait to see the latest crop of talent and those looking to show off everything they have been working hard to perfect.”

Pleasure Beach Arena annually hosts the festival in the world’s first purpose built ice arena, and has been home to a best-in-class ice show, Hot Ice, every year since its construction in 1936.

Thompson added: “As a building that is steeped in history, we’re excited to host the festival as it celebrates its 55th year.

“Over the years, The Arena has seen a wealth of talent skate through its doors and as we continue to invite and inspire the next generation of world-class ice skaters, we wish all of the competitors the very best of luck.”

IJS Ice Skating Festival runs from April 8 to April 11, 2024.

The deadline for entries has been extended to Friday 15th March. Applicants can apply here.
