ALVIS Sporting recorded their sixth consecutive away win of the season after progressing through to the quarter-finals of the Midland League President’s Cup courtesy of a 3-0 win at Fairfield Villa.
Dean Kimberlin opened the scoring before Tommy Maguire added a second with the goal of the match just before the break by finishing off a 40-yard run with a superb shot from a tight angle.
Mid-way through the second half Adam Layfield’s indirect free kick was laid off for Maguire to fire home his second and Alvis’ third to ensure the Green Lane side’s entry into the next round.
Alvis boss, Damian Cassidy, said: “Despite the scoreline, this was a tough and close encounter, but it was good to have a clean sheet away from home, and to progress further in the competition.”
Alvis remain hot on the heels of Midland League Division Two leaders Chelmsley Town despite having played three games less than their rivals.
Chelmsley currently sit four points clear but that gap could decrease to one with Alvis hoating Barnt Green Spartak this Saturday and Chelmsly host Fairfield Villa.
Cassidy added: “Saturday is National Non League Day which is a day to celebrate the 40,000 clubs playing at the semi professional and amateur level of the game.
“Alvis we will be delighted to welcome all members of the community to our Green Lane ground when we entertain Barnt Green Spartak.”
