JUDO - Giles begins bid for World Championship medal

CHELSIE Giles has discovered her first opponent at the World Judo Championships.

The Coventry judoka will face China’s Liping Liu in the -52kg second round on Friday (October 7).

Giles received a first round bye and enters the competition as the number three seed.

And Giles is the reigning European champion after she triumphed in Sofia back in April.

The gold medal added to the Olympic bronze she won at Tokyo 2020 where she claimed Team GB’s first medal of the Games.

Giles is part of a nine-strong GB team who have travelled to compete at the Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
