FOOTBALL: COVENTRY United Ladies booked their spot in the SSE Womens’ FA Cup fourth round following a dramatic penalty shootout win against Crystal Palace.
The win means United will face Womens’ Super League Two side Millwall Lionesses in the next round.
The game will be played on Sunday, February 4, with more details to follow.
United’s spot in the fourth round was hard earned though, and Crystal Palace didn’t make it easy for the Butts Park Arena outfit.
Helen Dermody’s penalty put United ahead after Jade Brook was tripped by Amy Green and Rosie Paye in the penalty area.
Sunday’s game was then stopped for half an hour after United forward Keeley Davies sustained a serious injury. She was taken to hospital before returning to the ground after full time.
Nikita Whinnett’s strike forced the game to extra time, during which neither side could find a winning goal.
Despite Anna Wilcox’s opening miss, the girls in red and green won 3-2 after a pair of saves from Sue Wood earned United victory.
