RUGBY UNION: A LATE try from Kearnan Myall earned Wasps a hard fought victory over rivals Leicester Tigers at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday.
Though Tigers took an early lead, and looked for long periods of the game to be the side that would walk away with the points, Wasps stuck to their game plan to leapfrog Leicester and move up to fifth in the league table.
The visitors started strongly, going 10-0 up in the first 15 minutes, before Wasps fought back to lead 17-10 at the break.
A pair of tries from ex-Wasps academy winger Jonah Holmen then put the visitors back in front.
Elliot Daly then crossed over before George Ford’s penalty created an ‘edge of your seat’ finish.
Wasps piled on the pressure in the closing minutes, and were finally rewarded with Myall’s try, which also clinched the bonus point.
Wasps’ director of rugby Dai Young said: “In the last couple of minutes I felt there was going to be a winner.
“It was going to be a penalty or a try one way or the other, because both teams were attacking.
“I felt confident if we could get good position, if we were a bit patient and composed which we weren’t for the first 20 minutes, we would score again.
“I’m really thrilled to get that win, there’s not much between the two teams and I couldn’t have complained if the Tigers had nicked it at the end.”
