A LATE penalty denied Coventry United all three points in a 1-1 draw against Racing Club Warwick at Butts Park Arena.
Matthew Gardner gave the Red and Greens a 24th-minute lead when he fired past Warwick keeper Charlie Bannister from a left-wing cross – a just reward for United’s early signs of promise.
The forward almost had a second towards the end of the half when his header ricocheted against the bar and he should have put the game to bed in the second half when failing to direct a simple header goalwards.
Warwick were provided with a chance to haul themselves on level terms when a defeat seemed inevitable – a chance which Kevin Thornton made no mistake from as he converted the penalty beyond Reece Francis.
United host AFC Wulfrunians on Saturday (3pm).
