The Sky Blues are back in action this evening at the Ricoh Arena as they take on Southend United

Mark Robins will be looking for a response from his team following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at home to Bradford City.

The final whistle is met by boos from the home supporters. The fans are clearly angered by a disappointing performance Sky Blues performance.




FULL-TIME – It’s finished Coventry City 0-2 Southend.

90+2 – K.Thomas tried an acrobatic effort at goal his volley is wide of the target. 0-2


There will be three minutes of added on time…

Some Sky Blues fans have seen enough and are heading towards the exit. A few minutes left here, it’s still 2-0 to the visitors.

84 – A final change for Southend. McLaughlin comes off and former Sky Blues striker Nouble comes on to a generous appluase by the City faithful.

78 – Substitute for Southend. Robinson is replaced by McGlashon. The Sky Blues are still trailing 2-0.

There’s a break in play here while Southend defender Coker receives some treatment. He went down after a firm challenge by Stevenson.

68 – A good chance comes and goes for the visitors. Robinson receives the ball by the penalty spot and makes space for a powerful shot but Burge gets down well to make a smart save, 0-2

67 – Substitute for Southend. Goalscorer Ranger comes off and he’s replaced by a familiar face in the shape of Fortune, who had  short spel with the Sky Blues last season.

62 – Second substitute for the Sky Blues sees Bigirimana come off and he’s replaced by G.Thomas.

60 – Full back Coker sees his free kick hit the wall and he fires the rebound well wide of the target. 0-2

57 – Beavon sees a shot deflected wide and moments later Bigirimana fires in a dangerous looking cross which is cleared away by the Bradford defence. A positive start to the second half by the Sky Blues. 0-2

52 – Kelly-Evans is booked for what the referee sees as a late challenge on Coker. Looked like he won the ball from here. 0-2

49 – An early chance for the Sky Blues at the start of the second half sees the ball fall to Reilly in space outside the box but his left-footed shot is comfortable for Smith in the Southend goal. 0-2

We’re back underway here at the Ricoh Arena. There has been one change at the break for the hosts. Kwame Thomas has come on in place of Turnbull.

HALF-TIME – The Sky Blues find themselves 2-0 down at home to Southend with Nile Ranger and Ryan Leonard getting the goals for the visitors.

44 – Ryan Haynes delivered a dangerous ball into the box from the left but the Southend defence does well to clear. 0-2

43 – Not much to report on over the last ten minutes. The Sky Blues are struggling to break down a very physical Southend side. 0-2

26 – The Sky Blues have their first effort on goal. Haynes cuts inside and sends a right-footed shot over the bar. His effort is met with ironic cheers from the home supporters. 0-2

23 – GOAL FOR SOUTHEND! The visitors double their lead thanks to Ryan Leonard, whose long range free kick took a big deflection on its way past Burge into the top corner of the net. 0-2

19 – Ranger comes close with audacious curling effort from the edge of the area. His shot took a deflection and went out for a corner. Ranger comes close from the corner ahead but his header drops over the bar. 0-1

17 – Wordsworth’s free kick doesn’t make it past the wall and a foul on Reilly allowed the Sky Blues to clear the danger. 0-1

16 – Callum Reilly dives in and concedes a free kick on the edge of the area in a dangerous position. Wordsworth is standing over it…

10 – It’s been all Southend so far. The Sky Blues have their first corner of the match, it’s deep towards the far post where Clarke was lurking but he could not direct his header on target. 0-1

The lowest attendance for a home league match this season is 7,941 against Chesterfield at home back at the beginning of November. There are a lot of empty seats at the Ricoh tonight!

2 – GOAL FOR SOUTHEND! The visitors take the lead in the second minute. Robinson cuts the ball back for Ranger by the penalty spot and he fires a low shot past Burge. 0-1

1 – Just 25 seconds on the clock and Wordsworth fires a right-footed shot inches wide of Burge’s left-hand post. 0-0

The Sky Blues have made five changes. In come Haynes, Bigirimana, Rawson, Tudgay, Kelly-Evans. They come in place of the injured Foley and Stokes. Both Kwame and George Thomas are on the bench and there is no place in the squad for vernam.
