LIVE: Coventry City late bid to land a striker, and late bid for one Sky Blues player

Coventry Editorial 31st Jan, 2017   0

COVENTRY City are still hoping to bring in one striker – or one attacking midfielder – with 90 minutes to go before the transfer window closes at 11pm, we can reveal.

Club sources have just told us boss Russell Slade is still hoping to finalise a deal to boost goalscoring options, which has been a problem all season.

One striker in particular is being considered at this late stage.

He is not the same striker who Slade was targeting earlier today.

We are told the club realistically at this late stage expects to bring in one more player at best, if at all.

There has also been renewed late interest in one young Sky Blues player tonight which could still lead to a sale.

Coventry City will not name the player at this stage.

But we understand there has been no further interest since 6.15pm from Rotherham in club captain Jordan Willis.

As we revealed, the 6.15pm ‘final deadline’ set by Rotherham passed for Coventry City to accept their already rejected third bid for Willis.

We revealed earlier Coventry City sources had dismissed as completely false media reports elsewhere they had accepted a third offer yesterday, and that the player had failed to agree terms with the Yorkshire club.

Slade earlier this month publicly stated other clubs should think if again if they thought they could pick up the struggling League One club’s players on the cheap.

Coventry City have also repeatedly stated all players have their price.

We reported yesterday that Spurs had their request to trial defender Cian Harries rejected by the Sky Blues.

As of 7pm, club sources also told us Brentford had made no third offer for 19-year-old midfielder Ben Stevenson, after the west London side had two bids of £500,000 and £750,000 rejected earlier this month.

Our sources say there has been no renewed interest today in Ryan Haynes, after we revealed a Wolves bid was rejected yesterday.
