Lucy Parize gets the nod after trials with Wasps Netball

A BUSY summer of recruitment has come to an end for Wasps Netball who completed their 12-player squad for the 2017 Netball Superleague season with the signing of up-and-coming West Midlands star Lucy Parize.

The 18-year-old was originally one of 60 people trying out for Wasps Netball’s training squad last week at trials held at Warwick University.

And Parize, from Sutton Coldfield, impressed that much that she has become Director of Netball Tamsin Greenway’s twelfth and final signing.

“After watching Lucy shine we wanted to give her the opportunity to test herself at the top level and begin the journey at Wasps,” said Wasps director of netball Tamsin Greenway.

“It was my favorite phone call to make as Lucy was over the moon and I know how important it is for this area to have an elite team on their doorstep where the next batch of West Midlands players can make their mark.

“Finding the talent and helping develop players in the region is really important to us and over the next few seasons that will be a real focus.”

A young exciting prospect that plays goal attack or goal shooter, Parize was a stand-out player for the West Midlands Warriors in the Netball Performance League (NPL) last season.

Her performances in the NPL also saw her join up with Warriors’ U21 Super League squad to compete at the 2016 U21 September Showdown in Worcester.

Parize, who took up netball at the age of eight, has represented England at Under-19 level for a five-match tour in Jamaica.

She has been a West Midlands player for the past four years and says she is delighted to be involved with Wasps Netball in the region’s first Vitality Netball Superleague team.

“When Wasps Netball were announced as a new SuperLeague club, I was very excited and that excitement only increased when Tamsin Greenway joined up,” Parize addded. “So, attending the trials was a real no-brainer.

“I feel really lucky to be joining such a great set-up, with all the great signings we’ve made. I know it is going to be an amazing season and I hope that Wasps will go all the way and be crowned 2017 Superleague champions.”
