CYCLING: FORMER professional racer Rob Muzio was back on the top step of the podium for M.I Racing when landing the National Madison Championship in Derby.
Muzio teamed up with former international racer Kenny Grey to land the inaugural staging of the event, taking M.I Racing’s tally of British Championships in 2017 to ten.
Team boss Mick Ives partnered Murray Kirton to break the age related national record – which has stood since 1981 – for 25 miles on a tandem by more than seven minutes
Last weekend they set new records for 50 mile tandem, and in the next fortnight Ives and Kirton will be attacking the records for ten miles and 30 miles.
The team were also in action on bank holiday Monday at Coalville Wheelers in Leicestershire.
Fielding ten out of the 30 teams, M.I Racing were made up of veteran racers in an event which aimed to hand youngsters an idea of what team time trialling is all about.
Rob Muzio, Mike Twelves, Mick Ives, and Mark Wise all featured for the Coventry-based team – Ives, aged 78, was teamed up with Finley Ross, aged 12.
Elsewhere the club teamed up with Coventry Olympic Group Sportive to raise funds for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice, Myton Hospice, and Baginton Junior Football Team.
It is hoped the charity cycle ride will be repeated next year.
