LAST Saturday, two goals from Swede Kim Tallberg earned the Blaze a hard-fought victory over Cardiff Devils at Ice Arena Wales.
Devils’ top-scorer Cole Sanford beat Paavo Holsa to make it 1-0 at 11.04 but Tallberg fired past Taran Kozun to level at 12.39.
Man-of-the-match Holsa stood strong for the Blaze as the hosts pushed for a winner while but Kozun made two excellent saves late on to deny Alex Forbes and Colton Yellow Horn.
With the game going to three-on-three overtime, it took just 16 seconds for the winner to come as Tallberg scored his second.
On Sunday, the Blaze soon established a 2-0 lead against Belfast through Brit Nathan Ripley (7.12) and Canadian Yellow Horn (11.58).
But they lost momentum and the Giants levelled through Will Cullen (27.08) and Lewis Hook (28.45).
Tallberg put Blaze ahead again early in the third period with his 12th of the regular season, grabbing the puck out of mid-air, and finishing neatly.
But Darik Angel (48.36), and Steven Owre (52.27) turned the game in the Giants’ favour and after Tallberg couldn’t quite force home a puck which sat on the Giants’ line Owre sealed victory with the visitors’ fifth with 25 seconds to go.
