MOTORSPORT - Angliss achieves top-10 finish in Oulton opener

BREA Angliss secured an impressive top-10 finish in the first race of the Ginetta Junior Championship at Oulton Park over the Easter bank holiday weekend.

In what was only Angliss’s second ever weekend of competitive car racing, following her debut in the Winter Series last November, the 15-year-old exceeded all expectations in Cheshire.

Angliss was reunited with the Alastair Rushforth Motorsport team having prepared for the new season with a testing programme in recent weeks.

And the teenager completed her preparations with two final days of official testing on the eve of the meeting.

She posted the 16th fastest time overall for race one as a composed performance saw her stay out of trouble and make impressive progress up the grid.

And the Coventry-based rider made her up to 11th at the chequered flag before a time penalty for the car ahead saw her promoted to 10th in only her fifth Ginetta race.

Angliss said: “This weekend was a massive learning curve for me and to come away with P10 and P11 finishes is more than I could have ever hoped for.

“The racing was as action-packed as you’d expect in the Ginetta Juniors and I really enjoyed getting into the thick of the action.

“I’m pleased to have stayed out of trouble and picked up three clean race finishes.

“My pace was improving every time I went out on track and I’ve learnt loads, so this is a good platform for us to build on going into the next round and beyond.”

Angliss, who is supported by Transend UK, Haigh Engineering and Filtered, was greeted by a change of weather conditions as racing resumed with a sun-soaked track replaced by a damp circuit for race two.

She adapted well to the conditions and moved up to 14th before a mistake took her across the grass which saw her fall back to an eventual 16th place finish.

Sporadic rain showers throughout the day made life difficult for the drivers with Angliss forced onto the grass at the first corner of race three after several cars in front of her spun.

She recovered well to sit 13th and went on the offensive on the final lap to come home 11th with a superb overtake into the last corner.

Angliss continues her season on the weekend of May 6/7 at Silverstone in four weeks’ time.
