MOTORSPORT - Brea Angliss achieves best race result of season to end campaign on a high

BREA Angliss enjoyed a fantastic end to the 2023 Ginetta Junior Championship season, securing her best qualifying and race result of the campaign during the final rounds at Donington Park.

On just her second outing with leading team Preptech UK, the Coventry driver showed consistent pace and impressive race craft to secure her biggest points haul of the season.

The 15-year-old qualified 12th and finished seventh in race one to achieve her best finish of the season before coming home 14th and 12th respectively in races two and three.

Angliss said: “I’m over the moon with how the race weekend went.

“We’ve had some tough times through the season, so for everything to come together and to be able to end the year on a high note is a fantastic feeling and a big confidence boost heading into the winter.

“Testing getting cancelled wasn’t the best preparation for the weekend, but I felt comfortable in the tricky conditions.

“Preptech UK gave me a fantastic car and I was really able to push myself, make some moves and get a great finish on the board.

“The results didn’t reflect the pace we had, I just didn’t get the luck in the close battles, but to get three clean races in and a good haul of points was great.

“I feel like I’ve made huge steps forward in all aspects as a driver this year, and I’m excited to see what 2024 brings.”

After torrential rainfall meant official testing was cancelled, Angliss quickly acclimatised to the greasy track conditions in practice.

And Angliss pushed hard in her Ginetta G40 to post some quick lap times in qualifying, showing great pace in her three flying laps to place 12th – her best qualifying result of the season.

The teenager made a fantastic start to race one and shot forward three places to ninth on the opening lap, however the emergence of red flags led to a full restart.

When the action resumed, Angliss rose to tenth in what proved to be a frenetic race before working her way into ninth and then eighth as a post-race penalty for another driver saw her end up in seventh.

Angliss enjoyed some more exciting battles in race two and was unfortunate to lose ground late on and finish 14th after being on the fringes of the top-10 throughout.

In her final race of the season, Angliss made a strong start and expertly avoided a multi-car incident to slot into seventh.

However, after losing out in some busy midfield action she eventually came home in 12th to round off an excellent weekend of racing.
