MOTORSPORT - Coventry's Blake Angliss ends season with best-ever weekend in British GT

BLAKE Angliss ended his second British GT Championship season with a podium finish at Donington Park.

The Coventry driver enjoyed his best-ever weekend in the series as he converted a maiden pole position into a podium finish.

Angliss and teammate Luke Garlick, driving for Mahiki Racing, also took Silver Class honours to end the season on a positive note.

Angliss said: “It was a typical rollercoaster weekend in the British GT Championship, so it’s a fantastic feeling to come away from it with another podium finish to my name.

“We had to work hard for it and I’m delighted we could bring home the result for the team.

“We had a couple of mishaps in testing but they were rectified and we were able to make some good progress through free practice.

“Come qualifying, the car was in a great place and everything finally came together for us to achieve our first pole position.

“Luke made a brilliant start to the race, but once again we had some bad luck with the puncture and the race was made much harder than it should have been.

“The car was rapid in the tricky conditions though and Luke was able to get us back into contention.

“It was pretty sketchy on the slick tyres in the wet, but I really enjoyed it out there and the car really came alive.

“Therefore it was a touch frustrating that the ultimate pace wasn’t there to match the McLaren when it dried out at the end, but I kept pushing right through to the chequered flag.

“To finish only a second behind the winner, having dropped to the back with the puncture, shows just how good our pace was.

“I’m happy with my contribution, this was by far my best overall weekend in British GT so far, and it’s fired me up even more to get a full race programme together for 2026.”

Angliss and Garlick combined to secure pole in their Ginetta G56 GT4 Evo in qualifying in the GT4 class.

Garlick started behind the wheel and made a rapid start as he pulled five seconds clear within the opening 15 minutes of the two-hour race.

However, a sudden puncture saw his advantage wiped away as Garlick returned to the pits for an unscheduled stop.

Fortunately, the puncture occurred during a safety car period which allowed Garlick to line-up at the back of the field for the restart.

He quickly made his way up the order to sit fourth in the GT4 class and eventually rose to second on the grid.

After the mandatory mid-race pit stop, Angliss took the wheel and remained in second place.

A rain shower made for challenging conditions as Angliss drove on an increasingly wet track surface on slick tyres.

The 22-year-old controlled the car well, as the conditions caught out a number of other drivers, to close down an 11-second gap to the eventual GT4 title-winning McLaren ahead of him.

And Angliss eventually stormed into the race lead with 20 minutes remaining.

However, Angliss’s Ginetta could not match the pace of the McLaren as the circuit began to dry as he slipped back down to second.

Angliss reached the chequered flag in second place overall to take Silver Class honours in the process.

The YorPower and Transend UK backed driver is now exploring some exciting avenues for the 2026 race season as he looks to launch the next chapter of his racing career.
