COVENTRY’S Blake Angliss showcased his pace and potential on his return to the British GT Championship at Spa-Francorchamps.

Angliss ended a year-long absence from competitive GT4 action with Mahiki Racing’s newly-acquired Ginetta G56 GT4 Evo in Belgium.

Competing alongside teammate Steven Lake, the duo finished sixth in the GT4 class.

Pit stop and track limit infringements halted Angliss and Lake’s challenge for a class podium.

Angliss said: “We knew heading into the weekend that it would be a challenging one, with the team only receiving the cars for the first time the night before testing.

“That meant there were some teething issues with the car, which unfortunately cost us quite a bit of track time in testing and practice.

“The Mahiki Racing team and Ginetta worked tirelessly through the weekend though and we really made some positive steps forward through qualifying and the race.

“It was a relatively uneventful race, but getting a full race distance under our belts gives us crucial knowledge and experience of the car.

“After a year on the sidelines, it was fantastic to go racing again and a huge thank you to the team and my partners for the opportunity.

“I’ve got a lot more to give behind the wheel and as we get more track time in the car, I’m excited to show everyone exactly what I can do.”

Angliss and Lake lost vital track time in testing and free practice due to teething issues with the new car.

However, the pair impressed in qualifying, despite playing catch-up to the rest of the field, to secure third in the Pro-Am class on the grid.

Lake started in the cockpit and produced a strong opening stint to retain their top-three class position.

Angliss jumped into the car at the 40-minute and matched the pace of the class-leading Ginetta showcasing his raw speed.

However, penalties denied the pair a chance of securing a class podium finish.

The next round of the British GT Championship takes place on the weekend of July 12 and 13 at Snetterton.
