WARWICKSHIRE’s Nick Skelton has been honoured at this year’s annual British Showjumping Awards in Solihull.

Olympic individual gold Medallist Skelton, who went to Bablake School, won the British Showjumping Award for his heroics in Rio while Smith was crowned National Champion.

The evening saw in excess of 400 guests celebrate with the extremely worthy nominees and winners from grass roots competitors through to those that achieved podium success at the Rio Olympic Games this summer.

Other winners included Skelton’s groom Mark Beever who walked away with the Top Level Team Grooms Award, while Big Star was named Horse of the Year.

Visitors to Warwick Racecourse’s next fixture will have the chance to meet tw-time Olympic gold winner Skelton when he appears as a special guest at a Business Networking Raceday on the afternoon of Friday, November 4.

Skelton will be joined in the Paddock Pavilion by Channel 4 Racing’s Rishi Persad as they talk through the show jumping legend’s 38-year, honour-filled career.

The audience will then be invited to question Skelton, who is Britain’s oldest Olympic Champion since the 1908 Games, about a remarkable career which saw Skelton retire due to serious injury back in 2000, before he fought back to make an incredible recovery and win Team Gold at London 2012 and then double his medal tally in Rio with Individual Gold.

Tickets for the business networking package cost £30 and includes the guest talk from Nick Skelton, a tipster talk, lunch, all-day access to the Pavilion, and a full afternoon of racing.

Gates open at 11am, with the guest talk at 11.45. The first race is at 12.50pm and last at 4.15pm. General admission tickets start from £12.50 and are available from www.warwickracecourse.co.uk.
