ORIENTEERING - Octavian Droobers take part in White Rose Weekend in Yorkshire

OCTAVIAN Droobers Orienteering Club enjoyed success in several races at the annual White Rose Weekend in Yorkshire.

There were a wide variety of events planned around the Gilling area of Yorkshire including a night score, middle and classic distance, a sprint, mountain bike score and entertainment including a maze, quiz and BBQ centred around the campsite.

In the Gilling Castle sprint race, Nathan Lawson M21 was first in the Men’s Open whilst, in their age classes, Anne Straube was second Women’s Vet, Kirsten Strain third Women’s Open and Sue Bicknell third Women’s Hyper Vet.

After competing in both the Middle and Classic races, the overall results from club members were first place for Nathan Lawson in the M21 Long class and also a first place finish for Kirsten Strain in the W35 Long class.

And Anne Straube was second in the W35 Long Class and Sue Bicknell second W75 class.

The club would also like to remind anyone interested that they are offering a series of free introductory sessions to the sport for beginners in Warwick.

The sessions will take place on Saturday, September 3 from 2pm to 3pm at St Nicholas Park in Warwick.

All ages, especially families, are welcome to come along and experience the fun outdoor adventure sport with full instructions to be given by local club members.

Participants can walk or run around the park noting the letter on each post, using a free map, to complete the trails, a bit like a treasure hunt. Trail lengths are from 1.9km to 3.6km.
