KASEY Palmer opened the scoring as Coventry City eased to a comfortable 3-0 win against League Two side Walsall in midweek.
Palmer’s goal was added to by strikes from Josh Eccles and Fabio Tavares as the Sky Blues maintained their perfect pre-season record at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.
City started the better of the two teams as Ben Sheaf stung the palms of Walsall goalkeeper Adam Przybek from distance before Martyn Waghorn was denied on the follow-up.
Academy graduate Eccles was closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half after he played a neat one-two with Waghorn before shooting against the post with the final action of the half.
However, Mark Robins’ side eventually made the breakthrough when Palmer scored his first Sky Blues goal on 51 minutes with a slotted finish into the bottom corner.
And the midfielder almost turned provider later in the half when his whipped cross was met by the head of Dom Hyam only for Przybek to turn away the centre-back’s effort.
City doubled their lead on 65 minutes when Eccles opened up his body and curled a fine effort into the far corner.
And the Sky Blues completed the scoring on 78 minutes as Tavares celebrated his new deal with a goal when he pounced on a mix-up in the Walsall defence.
Coventry are next in action away at Portsmouth on Saturday, July 23 with kick-off at 3pm at Fratton Park,
