COVENTRY’S Peter Cusack won a silver medal after Great Britain’s men suffered a narrow 73-69 defeat against defending champions USA in the wheelchair basketball final at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Cusack played his part as Britain secured their first silver medal in the event since Atlanta 1996.

Britain lost the first three quarters 23-18, 15-13 and 15-12 before rallying to win the final quarter 26-20 in a closely-fought gold medal match at Bercy Arena.

However, GB just missed out on a first-ever gold medal in the event as USA retained the title they won at both Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

Britain beat Germany in the semi-finals and Australia in the quarter-finals after group stage victories against Germany, Canada and France.
