Personal issues force former Bees racer Bates into early retirement from speedway

SPEEDWAY: PERSONAL issues have forced former Coventry Bees racer Josh Bates into early retirement.

The talented racer, who is only 21, had agreed to compete for Leicester and Sheffield next season.

But Bates took to social media during the week to announce his immediate retirement from the sport.

A statement from Leicester speedway said: “He is, without doubt, a very popular rider.

“The club and Josh himself would like to offer their thanks for the messages of support he has received since making the announcement.

“Leicester, along with his Championship club Sheffield, will give him all the time and space he needs to deal with these difficulties.”
