PLYMOUTH ARGYLE have signed Ruben Lameiras as a free agent after his release from Coventry City.
The 22-year-old midfielder who was a Spurs academy graduate impressed at the Sky Blues under Tony Mowbray with his attacking skills.
But he found himself in and out of the team, not least under Russell Slade, until he was more favoured under Mark Robins from March.
Many fans questioned his strength as a slight player and his defensive work also came under some scrutiny. But Lameiras was widely regarded to have undoubted quality, possibly more suited to a higher level than League Two.
Plymouth announced the signing on their website this afternoon.
It states: “Born in Lisbon, Ruben moved to England as a 10-year-old and joined the Academy at Tottenham Hotspur, at the time managed by Juande Ramos.
“He signed professional terms in 2014, and featured for their under-21 side.
“Lameiras left Spurs to have a spell with Swedish first division side, then signed for Coventry City in the summer of 2015, having impressed on a trial.
“In two seasons, he has made 69 appearances for the Sky Blues, including 26 as a substitute, scoring seven goals.
“Bem-vindo ao Plymouth, Ruben!”
The highlight of his time at Coventry was his contribution to the Checkatrade Trophy Wembley final in April.
The Sky Blues under Robins have been busy this summer bringing in players with success in League Two.
