ON THE back of a four-point-weekend, Coventry Blaze manager Danny Stewart has added to his roster by confirming the signing of Great Britain International forward Ben Davies.
Davies, who this year spent time with the Norfolk Admirals in the East Coast Hockey League, has more than 400 Elite League games under his belt with an impressive 200 points.
The 25-year-old Cardiff-born centre, who stands at 5’8″, has played the majority of his career in the Welsh capital – making 346 appearances – posting near 150 points.
Along with brief stints in Basingstoke and Swindon, Davies has also appeared in the purple colours of Braehead where he spent two season with the Scottish outfit – quickly becoming a fans favourite.
Additionally, the centre has iced for Team GB at all junior levels and made his international debut in 2013.
Davies’ capture is a result of the improved attendances at the Skydome this season which has seen well over 2,000 people attend the club’s opening six Elite League fixtures – only the second time this has happened in the club’s history.
Blaze chairman Andy Buxton said: “Having such good attendances so early in the season has given us the chance to invest more into the team.
“We want to thank the fans for their support this season so far, you have been incredible.”
Head coach Danny Stewart said: “This move happened fast and was something we felt could help us move forward.
“He adds to our depth as the league transitions into four-line hockey but also has the capability to add to our secondary scoring.
“It was only a couple seasons ago that he scored 17 goals for the Cardiff Devils and has produced 30 plus points consistently the last several seasons.
“He is responsible at both ends and is another guy we can use on the penalty-kill.”
