SHOWJUMPING: RISING star Lucy Douglas-Jones bagged gold at the British Showjumping Championships last week in the 138cm and Under Final.
The 11-year-old, who lives in Corley, was onboard Kantjes Zamontinaro – and she jumped to finish in record time at the national championships, which took place at the NAEC in Stoneleigh.
Introduced by British Showjumping in 2014, the Bronze and Silver Pony/Rider Combination League allows all pony riders to be able to track their progress on a regional and national league table.
The qualification period runs from the April 1 until June 30. There are three leagues – Bronze, Silver and Gold and they are split into three height categories of 128cm, 138cm and 148cm.
The Heart of England Pony Club member was thrilled with her win, though she admitted she was a little nervous at the start.
She said: “When I first went into the arena I was a bit nervous but it felt amazing to win here at the championships.
“I have had my pony since April and he is the best.
“I have been in a couple of classes already and it has gone really well. I was second in the Stepping Stones class and I also competed in the National Schools classes.”
